2017 was the safest year in aviation history ever. As mentioned in todays Conde Naste, AirlineRatings.com, a safety and product rating website, just announced its annual list of the world’s 20 safest airlines (and the ten safest budget airlines) after evaluating 409 carriers, their crash/incident reports, operational history, fleet age, and inspection reports. Australia’s Qantas had held the top spot four years in a row, but this year, the website decided to honor the 20 best airlines equally. The safest airlines are: Air New Zealand, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Emirates, Etihad Airways, EVA Air, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Japan Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Scandinavian Airline System, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Virgin Atlantic, and Virgin Australia. (Notably absent? Delta and United, which dropped off this year’s list.)
In its evaluation of low-cost carriers, AirlineRatings.com found that Aer Lingus, Flybe, Frontier, HK Express, JetBlue, Jetstar Australia, Thomas Cook, Virgin America, Vueling, and Westjet were the ten safest.
